CDAI activity index quick explaination

The Crohn's Disease Activity Index (CDAI) is a valuable tool in assessing the severity and progress of Crohn's disease in patients. It takes into account various factors such as the number of liquid or soft stools per day, abdominal pain intensity, general wellbeing, and the presence of complications related to Crohn's disease.

In terms of interpreting your CDAI score, here's a general guide:
- A score below 150 suggests inactive disease or remission. This means that, while you still have Crohn's disease, it is currently not active and is well-managed. Regular monitoring and maintenance treatment are typically advised in this stage.
- A score between 150 and 220 indicates mild to moderate disease activity. You may experience some symptoms, but they may not be severe enough to greatly interfere with daily life. However, a healthcare professional may recommend different treatments or interventions to reduce disease activity and prevent complications.
- A score between 220 and 450 is indicative of moderate to severe disease activity. At this stage, symptoms are likely significant and may impact daily life. Consultation with a healthcare professional is advisable for possible changes in treatment plan.
- A score over 450 is representative of severe Crohn's disease. This stage often comes with severe symptoms and complications that may require hospitalization or surgery.

Always remember, if you have Crohn's disease, regular check-ups and communication with your healthcare professional are vital to effectively manage your condition. CDAI is a useful tool, but it's not the sole basis for treatment decisions. Your healthcare provider will consider many factors, including your overall health, lifestyle, and personal preferences when deciding the best course of treatment for you.
